Looking Ahead at the Cubs 2022 Schedule

Looking Ahead at the Cubs 2022 Schedule

The release of the MLB schedule does not draw as much fanfare as the NFL announcement. This Cubs schedule has still been out for months, and that gives fans plenty of time to circle the biggest games of the year.

The 2022 season begins on March 31, 2022, in Cincinnati for a matchup with the Reds. That is assuming that the lockout doesn’t continue into the regular season.

Looking Ahead at the Cubs 2022 Schedule
The Chicago Cubs will open their 2022 season with a series against the Cincinnati Reds.

The home opener is set for Monday, April 4, and it will be the St. Louis Cardinals that are the opponent. This will be a two-game series, and that is the only matchup between the NL Central rivals during the first month of the season.

All four matchups between the Chicago White Sox will take place during the month of May, with the games at Wrigley Field being played on May 3 and 4. August could be a difficult month for the Cubs as there are only three scheduled off-days.

August will also be a huge month for the Cubs as they are facing the Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers a total of 13 times in those 31 days

Who Are the AL Opponents?

Now that the COVID-19 pandemic appears to have calmed down just a bit, the Cubs are going to get back to playing teams from other AL Divisions. This year, the AL East will provide the games, and these will be matchups that draw plenty of attention

The Cubs will visit New York Yankees Stadium on June 10-12 for a highly-anticipated matchup between two storied franchises. The Boston Red Sox come to town on July 1-3, and those tickets will be hard to come by.

The AL East is expected to be the toughest division in baseball this season, which will create some difficult matchups.

Easy Finish

If the Cubs can stay in the playoff race until the month of September, they could be a team to watch out for. Assuming this team can buy at the Trade Deadline, they could take advantage of a relatively easy schedule to finish out the year.

The five teams on the backend of the schedule for the Cubs are the Colorado Rockies, Miami Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, and Cincinnati Reds. Four of those teams really struggled in 2021, and this could allow the Cubs to chase down other teams over the final few weeks of the season.

The Cubs are guaranteed to play some games in October this season as the final game will be played on October 2 at Wrigley Field. Since the Cubs are scheduled to have such an easy finish, it will be more challenging to stay in the race at the beginning of the year.
