Cubs Convention is Coming Back

The annual Cubs Convention used to be one of the most exciting events of the year for fans of the Northsiders, but it hasn’t happened in three years. As the 2022 season was winding down, the Cubs announced that the Cubs Convention was set to return in January 2023.

The event is set to take place from -15, and it’s a chance for Cubs fans to interact with players and other members of the organization. If you truly are a fan of the Chicago Cubs then this is an event that you absolutely won’t want to miss.

There have been a couple of different reasons that the organization has chosen to postpone the event the last three years. The COVID-19 pandemic was a big reason for skipping out on the event, but it wasn’t the only reason.

There just wasn’t a ton of positive news surrounding the team over the last few years, and the top executives didn’t want to be put in a weird position with fans. It was pretty clear that some upsetting moves were going to be made, and the executives were able to hide a bit by canceling this event.

By bringing the Cubs Convention back, the organization is at least giving fans another reason to be excited about the upcoming 2023 season. This could be the first chance for fans to interact with some of the new players.

A Look at the Rumors

There won’t be any Cubs baseball to watch for the next few months, but the team is still going to be in the news. Even though the 2022 MLB Playoffs are still taking place, you can already start to hear plenty of rumors surrounding potential moves.

One of the latest rumors involves Jose Abreu and the interest that the Cubs have in signing him via free agency. One report went as far as suggesting that the Cubs were making Abreu a priority in free agency, and he would provide a huge boost on offense.

According to reports, the Cubs are also in the mix to sign some top international prospects as well. These rumors will likely change every week, but they will be worth keeping an eye on.

Surprises in the NL

The 2022 MLB Playoffs have not gone the way that they were supposed to go, at least in the National League. It was supposed to be the Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers meeting up again in the NLCS again, but neither team was able to get to that point.

Instead it will be Kyle Schwarber and the Philadelphia Phillies taking on Yu Darvish and the San Diego Padres. It was an interesting year for both the Phillies and Padres, but they were both able to reach the NLCS by making big moves.

This should be a good reminder to Jed Hoyer and company that the only way to win a World Series is to get into the playoffs and get hot at the right time.
