Sitting at 4th place in the National League, the Chicago Cubs are not going to make the playoffs in 2022. But it shouldn’t ruin your focus on baseball this summer. This was the plan from Jed Hoyer and Tom Ricketts and this Cubs team is actually doing what was expected.
There did seem to be a chance that the Cubs were going to reach the playoffs in 2022, but that has gone away over the last few weeks. The National League Central is going to be made fun of all summer long because there just isn’t a ton of competition here.
While the Cubs won’t factor into the NL Central Division race in 2022, there is a good race that has started to develop. The Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals are separated by just a handful of games, and they should be close throughout the year.
Milwaukee is going to try and win this division with the starting pitching once again, while the Cardinals have a loaded batting lineup. Even though most Cubs fans hate both the Brewers and Cardinals, they should deliver a terrific showdown throughout the summer.
Here Come the Braves
The National League East was expected to be highly competitive during the 2022 season, but that wasn’t the case through the first two months of the season. The New York Mets jumped out to a double-digit lead in the division, and the rest of the teams seemed to be dead in the water.
Now that we are heading into the end of June it looks as if this divisional race could end up being one of the best in the league. Atlanta has been on an absolute tear (except against the Cubs) and they are close to being the NL East betting favorites.
With so much time left in the year, don’t be surprised to see the Philadelphia Phillies play their way back into this race as well.
National League West Still Loaded
It should come as no surprise that the National League West Division is once again one of the best in baseball. That wasn’t supposed to be the case in 2021, but the San Francisco Giants came out of nowhere to challenge the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Dodgers are still the clear betting favorites to win the National League West Division, and they are also the betting favorites to win the World Series. Los Angeles has been able to open up a big lead on the San Francisco Giants, but they can’t seem to shake the San Diego Padres.
San Diego has been playing all year without Fernando Tatis Jr. and they just lost Manny Machado for an extended period of time. Despite both of the injuries, the Padres are going to keep the pressure on the Dodgers throughout the Summer.
Instead of focusing on the struggles of the Cubs, taking a close look at the National League West Division will provide some great entertainment.
